The Clark Historical Society founded in 1970 brings together people interested in local history especially the history of Clark Township.
The Historical Society operates and maintains the Dr. William Robinson Plantation House. Research indicates that the farmhouse built in 1690 by Dr. Robinson was a physician and surgeon. He emigrated here from Scotland. The house is one of the few examples of Medieval 11th century architecture in the nation and contains many features of the Tudor period. The Society also maintains the "History Room“ in the Municipal Building where other aspects of life and history in the Township can be found through documents, pictures, maps and some artifacts.
In an effort to continually document the past, present and future, many activities take place. We currently are involved in the renovation of the Dr. Robinson Plantation This building is over 300 years old and requires updates to insure the preservation of the building and the safety of visitors to this wonderful site.
Currently members from around the United States maintain their ties to the area they grew up in through this society.
We constantly interview and document life histories of the town members through video and written interviews.
This vital part of our town is something that must be preserved. We as a non profit society depend upon the contributions of our townspeople's time, effort and energy. In addition, grants and public assistance help us to maintain the strong presence we have in Clark NJ.
